Apple iPhone 4 Review (unbiased)

By

The Specs

Apple has finally released the iPhone 4. Tech geeks and fashionistas alike have been waiting eagerly for the new iPhone 4. With its new aluminum and glass design its definitely a head-turner, whether you’re calling someone from the office or web-surfing in your local café.

The new iPhone 4 comes in 2 colors, black and white. Although you can add a pinch of color using rubber bumpers also sold by Apple. The front and back panels are both made with glass with the latest Gorilla Glass Technology making it scratch-resistant and hard to break. Its aluminum edges, unlike its older sisters are not beveled. And with a thickness of only 9 mm, it makes this one of the thinnest smartphones currently available.

One of the features Apple boasts is what they call the “Retina Display”. This allows the screen to have a resolution of 960x640 pixels, almost double the resolution of most touchscreen phones. The iPhone 4 also has more horsepower than its predecessor, the iPhone 3gs, thanks to the new Apple A4 chip. The iPhone 4 comes with the standard smartphone features such as the 5 MP back camera that can record videos at 720p HD, a front-facing camera for video calls using Apple’s Facetime App, wi-fi b/g/n + 3G capability , and a 3.5 mm jack for external audio.

The Good

The iPhone 4 is definitely worth upgrading to if you have its older sister. The retina display is really clear and crisp even in direct sunlight. The Apple iOS is also good at managing multiple apps for multi-tasking. And its aluminum and glass design is a cherry on top a very pricey cake.

The Bad

Most iPhone 4 owners are complaining from what is known as the “death grip” which means that if you hold the phone a specific way, you lose ALL network signal. Some iPhone user in extremely cold areas are also reporting that their back glass panel are breaking due to the cold temperature. Although the app store has thousands of apps to choose from, it still suffers from Apple’s monopoly.

Bottom Line

All-in-all the iPhone is a great smartphone. But there are definitely much better alternatives, but that’s another hub.
